Slim Jim wants YOU!

Hey folks, it's Blitz here again. Yup, this sexy, slender orange boy is still waiting for you to come take me home. The perfect time to come for a visit is Wednesday December 10. The shelter is celebrating "Home for the Holidays". There will be treats for people and pets, and well as 2 local celebrities begging to get out of the dog kennels. Finally, those humans will get a taste of caged life! So stop on by for some fun, and ask to meet me while you are there. And don't forget about our Shadow cat adoption program. If you adopt a wonderful kitty friend (like me), you can also adopt a black or grey cat from the shelter for no charge! It is always a challenge to get black pets adopted, and we hope this will help more pets find their forever homes this Holiday season.

Once you've stopped by the shelter and found your forever friend (remember, my name is Blitz) on Wednesday December 10, it is time to check out Paws and Claus - pet pictures with Santa. Swing down to the Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds between 2-8, and Santa Claus himself will be there to grant your pet's holiday wishes. The shelter staff wants to remind everyone to make sure their pets are under control at all times, so please bring a leash or pet carrier.

As the weather turns colder, people become more aware of stray pets in their community. Every animal deserves a warm place to sleep, and fresh food and water. So if you see a homeless pet fending for itself in this cold weather, please bring it by the shelter!

Thanks friends, so glad you stopped by for a chat, Love Blitz.

Halloween Fun!

Hmmmm, I'm afraid I reported an error in my last blog post. But luckily, I have been given another chance. It's Blitz here, and I just wanted you all to know I did not go to Saskatoon. I am still hanging at the shelter in Lloydminster, waiting for my new owner. I have a new kennel mate, a little kitten. I like this new friend, but she keeps hissing at me! Good thing I am such a sweet boy, I will have won this kitten's love in no time.

On Halloween, the shelter had our first annual Spooktacular Midnight Madness Adopt-a-thon‏. I'm such a great looking orange pumpkin color, I thought I might get adopted. Not this time, but there were 2 rabbits, 4 cats and 5 dogs adopted, which is fantastic! Everyone who came down had fun, and the staff really looked great in their costumes. Next year will be bigger and better than ever (although I hope not to be around by then).

So don't forget, if you are looking for a super-sweet, lovable orange man, come check me out. Ask for Blitz, the girls will show you to my "office". Hey, I've already celebrated Halloween here, maybe by Christmas I can be lounging under a tree, sniffing presents.

Meow, Blitz.

Ballroom Blitz

Hi everyone! I'm Blitz, a kitty waiting for adoption at the Lloydminster & District SPCA. Actually, I have been adopted from the shelter once before. My story is quite sad. I was happily enjoying my new home, when my owners went through a sudden major health crisis. As you can imagine, I am so very sad by this. So know I am looking for another special home, where I will be well-loved and spoiled rotten!

Apparently I am becoming quite famous! I have been asked to write this blog, and I am featured in the upcoming SPCA newsletter. What an honour. But if you are interested in me, you may have to act fast. I heard a rumour that I will be travelling to Saskatoon on Friday, where I will be going up for adoption in their Petcetera store. So you Lloydminster residents better come down fast. Your time to adopt me is running out.

Happy Halloween, from Blitz

And the verdict is....

I've been adopted!!!!! Yay! Now you may be wondering, "how is she able to write this blog? Doesn't she need help from her secretary at the shelter?" Well, actually I am at the shelter. Apparently moving me away from the SPCA, which has been my home for the past 1.5 years, was a little stressful for me. I love my new family already, I honestly do! And they love me too. But I missed my routine and the great gals at the SPCA so much. So we have come to a compromise - doggie daycare! I get to hang out with my new owners at night, when they get home from work. During the day, I am back at the SPCA, chilling with my friends. It's the best of both worlds! Once I am more secure, I will need to be here less and less, and will be fully integrated into my new home. Thank goodness my new family is so understanding, and willing to work with me. I couldn't be happier, and neither could the SPCA staff.

On a sad note, this is probably goodbye. I must hand the blog-writing reins over to another SPCA critter, so they can share their thoughts with you. Who knows, maybe we will meet walking in the park someday, and I will have a huge Pittie smile and a big tail wag for you.

Love your friend, Minnie.

Crossing fingers, toes, and whatever else you got!!

Hey everyone, its Minnie again! I'm back with another picture of yours truly sporting a latest-fashion sweater. A gal can never have too many sweaters, right ladies? Or too many shoes, so I'm told. But being a dog, I have limited use for shoes. I do have a pair of winter booties, to keep my cute feet warm in the cold snow. Hey, don't laugh! If you've read my other blogs, you will understand that cold weather is my enemy, and I combat the freezing temperatures with as much fleece as I can get my paws on.

Well, I have some news! A family is interested in me! Yay! So far, everything is going well, I have been to 2 home visits, and have gone for multiple walks. They are thinking it over this weekend, so I should have more info for you next week. I was scared to write earlier, because I didn't want to jinx it. But I figure I need all my friends pulling for me, so please cross whatever body parts you can find. Let's hope this weekend in the shelter will be my last.

If not, I'm gonna keep my spirits up, and just keep looking. I know the perfect people are out there. They are just late! So hurry up perfect family! The perfect dog is waiting to go home with you.

Stay tuned for more in a few days....
Minnie Moo.

Fall is approaching

Being a short-haired Pit Bull means I usually don't look forward to the cold weather. But I am actually happy that summer is over, because I will now have more time for my blog entries. Actually, I always have time, its just the darn gal that I dictate my ideas to. She's been on vacation too much lately, and so you've all had to suffer along without Minnie's inspiring words. Awww, I feel so sorry for you, but have no fear, Minnie is back and ready to thrill you once more!

So here comes fall, which means more pictures of me in my super cool sweaters! Yes, Pit Bulls are supposed to be "tough" dogs. But I will let you in on a secret....that is a MYTH! It is true, we are big ole softies, who love to snuggle, eat treats, and wear jackets in the cold. Spread the word far and wide, Minnie is a sweater-loving, mouth-kissing, smiling Pit Bull fool. And proud of it!

Whew, I forgot how tiring this blog writing can be. Seems like I'm out of practice. Hopefully this will tide my legions of fans over for a few days. I'll be back again soon, unless one of the other animals at the shelter steals my thunder....ooops, I mean, takes a turn. Hahaha! Wish me sweet dreams as I catch a cat nap (can dogs even take cat naps? Weird).

Love you all, Minnie Moo

My time to shine

This is a happy face! And I will tell you why. As you all know, my name is Minnie, and I've been at the shelter for over a year. Guess what? A family is interested in me! We are taking things slow, since there are 2 kids in the family, but I have my paws crossed that this is a good sign. Even if this doesn't work out, maybe interest in me will pick up. I'm starting to get a complex here people! I'm told by the staff and volunteers all the time that I am pretty, smart, and well-behaved. So why am I still here? Hmmmm....good question. So please keep a paw, toe, and a few fingers crossed for me, ok?

Love ya, Minnie Moo
